Re: Mrd6's Walled Isuzu Rodeo
I am going to do my best to be at the next show or meet so if you guys are there I am always down to give demos haha
Stephen, the weird thing is, the only time it made that sound all day was when you where in there. I demoed with that song a couple other times later on full tilt and that noise never came back, really strange.
Agree on more power though. The gain on my amp is at around 1/4 turn now so im going to try to turn it up a bit and see if i can get some more power out of the sundown

Re: Mrd6's Walled Isuzu Rodeo
Thanks for the encouragement guys!
So I have a few things I want to try but would like some input on before I pull everything out and go at it this week/weekend.
1) I have three threaded rod braces in the box, two front to back and one side to side behind the subs. I am considering cutting out the one behind the subs because I dont think it is really doing anything and this could improve some air flow...maybe worth a tenth or two? I am also considering removing the front to back braces but these might actually be helping so that probably wont happen.
2) Add some volume to the box to reduce the air space. Currently i am right around 13 cubic feet internal tuned 32~33. Since I am peaking around 40hz, If I reduce box volume to around 12, my tuning should raise a bit and get me more output near my peak. (have yet to do the math to see how much) I have three places in the box where I could reduce the air space from and don't know which is most likely to help the most, i'll get pictures up of those three options later on when I get home from work.
Thoughts?

So first two are side views of the box and the third is a front/back view (same difference here) the red is where i would take away box volume from.
Hopefully my sketches make sense lol

I would probably do the first one. Looks like it would create better airflow

Re: Mrd6's Walled Isuzu Rodeo
Time for some updates! Most of this work was all done the day before I left for Lincoln City.
Saying good bye to the amp guts in the floor
And this is how my car looked 26 hrs before I left for Oregon

Re: Mrd6's Walled Isuzu Rodeo
First thing I did was change up my electrical wiring. Overkill for my single 3500 but I did enough so that I will be good enough that I can add a second 3500 later on and only need more batteries, no more wires.
100ft of audiotechnix 1/0 and some 8gauge for wiring from the subs
All my wire terminals and new hydraulic crimper
Pulled all the old wires to reallocate so that I have all my red wire for positive and all my ground wires as black
Then cleaned off the frame and drilled and tapped 4 holes in the front and 4 holes in the rear using the frame as the return path to save ground wire length.
rear grounds
front grounds sprayed and covered with plastidip

Then ran 4 runs of 1/0 from front to back and 2 positive runs from the alt and 2 negative runs from the alt to the front battery terminals/connected to 2 of the runs front to back
mmm...wires...
and a second xp3000 about to go on the charger

Re: Mrd6's Walled Isuzu Rodeo
Deadened all the doors, 36sqft between the 4 of them and a can of spray foam to reinforce the braces...they are solid as hell now!
Forgot to take pictures of the rear doors before I put them back together but they pretty much look the same

Re: Mrd6's Walled Isuzu Rodeo
a few pics of the box pulled out and the insides for those who are interested
I decided to try to cut out all of the threaded rod bracing, i didn't think it was really doing anything other than disrupting air flow a bit.
Then made a new amp cover plate that did not have the plexi holes so that I could move the sundown to the rear, closer to the batteries and then move the 4 channel under the cover plate.
