Sundown Nightshade/Memphis Mojo hybrids
A while back Ben (Baaudio) and I did a trade and I got 6 Mojo motors from him. The Mojo comes stock with a 3" coil (round wound) so I looked to Sundown for some 3" coils and the best 12" parts I could put on these things. Ended up with Nightshade v.1 coils and cones, and Zv.3 spiders in 12 spoke baskets.
The baskets do not line up and must be drilled to fit. Also, the parts from Sundown do not come built, as they do not do custom builds for another companies motor. This is my first time doing a build up from all parts, not just drop in cones.
Just started this last night and was hoping to get at least one done so I can let Ben check it out at the meet. Just need to get some longer bolts so I actually have some threads to grab onto, as the spacers make the stock bolts too short.

You got a woofer tester program I could run these through? Would be nice to know the actual specs but nah, I'm just gonna trial and error them. I'm pretty sure the mix will get low and sound decent. Wanna buy some?

Re: Sundown Nightshade/Memphis Mojo hybrids
wow, looking pretty sweet. How hard is it to built a custom sub? I have some old baskets and motors laying around from some crap I got of craigslist.
Re: Sundown Nightshade/Memphis Mojo hybrids
Depends on what you have. Most crap on craigslist is not worth the time and money, or is not able to be reconed. I have a diamond d3 that I thought about trying to make into an 8, but decided its not worth it, so now its a paperweight.accordwithbass wrote:wow, looking pretty sweet. If you have some good motors its not that hard at all if you get a drop in cone kit to match. You just have to be careful and pay attention. Once you drop that spider down on the glue, you're committed so you better of lined it up and spaced it right or you're gonna have coil rub.

Damn these will be beasts when you're done. How are you spacing the coil on the spiders? Obviously you don't want them all the way at the bottom. I can't wait to see one I'd you've got it ready tomorrow

In the first pic, by the basket you can see some 3/8" spacers that I got from sundown. The coils will be centered on the top plate.

Did you have this with you at the meet? I wish I would have seen it. I was so busy bullshitting and running the meter I didn't walk around enough.baaudio wrote:I'll bring one of my 15s tomorrow for you to check out.

How did you ensure the basket was lined up centered when you bolted the motor n basket together?

Caliper and measured around it the best I could. Kind of a pain. It takes quite a while to build these which is why I only have one done so far. That and I need to use my time getting this wall built

That's how I was gonna do it. I just ordered two more baskets for my other two motors. Hopefully I'll get all 4 built soon.....

Re: Sundown Nightshade/Memphis Mojo hybrids
Damn, I wish I knew you needed some. I have two 15" 12 spoke frames with terminals just chillin in the gargage. I had to go with new frames on my Nightshades because of the Zv.3 spiders so I had spares.baaudio wrote:That's how I was gonna do it. I just ordered two more baskets for my other two motors. Re: Sundown Nightshade/Memphis Mojo hybrids
I'm using 4 spoke baskets, otherwise id take you up on that. so no worries
did you space the basket from the motor? im thinking of using some 1/4"-3/8" spacers on my 15s but not sure its really necessary...

Re: Sundown Nightshade/Memphis Mojo hybrids
Yeah, 3/8 spacers. Its all about where the coil is when the spider is seated. Your coil should end up centered on the top plate. I believe it was Jacob who told me that. Check to make sure, but that's how I did it.baaudio wrote:I'm using 4 spoke baskets, otherwise id take you up on that. so no worries
