Subwoofer questions.
What do you guys think about the Fi Q and the SSA icon? Which do you guys think is a better sub?
Re: Subwoofer questions.
There is no overall "better" sub. It's going to depend on the user and their install. Too many variables to mess with.

Re: Subwoofer questions.
True, I figured id get this response after I posted it (noob) The icon is rated for 1250 watts rms, it could take 1500 easy don't you think?
Re: Subwoofer questions.
Again, that depends. Why would you even want to put another 250 watts to it; you're probably not going to notice any difference.. Even on the meter.

Re: Subwoofer questions.
With a woofer rated at 1250 rms I don't see 1500 being a problem. If it was a 250 rms woofer I'd say its iffy lol.
I've seen good results with both woofers. Lots of people praise the Fi Q as an SQL driver. I haven't heard much about the Icons.

Re: Subwoofer questions.
your really not going to hear an audible difference with 250 watts more.. if you went from 1250 to say 2500 a woofer, yes. but 1500 per would be fine.. just make sure your sending clean power to your woofers.

SQL not SPL.. SQL is more of your sound quality type builds.. not ground poudering, high spl number subs..

Re: Subwoofer questions.
Ya, see I want to go for more of the SPL side, rather than sound quality. I don't think the Qs would be the best for that.
Re: Subwoofer questions.
have you looked into maybe the AQ HDC3s?

Re: Subwoofer questions.
I looked at those, they look pretty good. So I know the Fi Q is more for SQ and the BL is more twords SPL, but like the lower end subs, like say a SSD or like a SSA dcon, the subs with lower RMS, are they for spl or sq or what? I want lots of cone area in this next build.
Re: Subwoofer questions.
you really cant say that a sub with a lower RMS rating isnt geared towards spl.. how much cone area are you talking tho?

Re: Subwoofer questions.
4 lower power 15s, or 2 bigger power 18s, im a little tight on money, and alot of the guys are telling me 2 18s would probably be best in my car.
Re: Subwoofer questions.
4 lower power 15s-
DC lv2 or 3, DD 2500 series, AQ SDC 2.5, and maybe a couple others you could add to list to choose from..
2 big 18s-
Fi SP4s (or the BLs where or not you wanna give the sp4s rated or over power with clean with the BLs) DC lv4, AQ HDC4s, and again maybe some others youwant to add to a list to choose from..
Id say thats just a good start to choose from. Then kinda work up a spec sheet for every woofer your interested in running and the power you want to throw at them and the electrical you would need for that power and find what best suits your budget, likes/dislikes, goals etc etc etc.

Re: Subwoofer questions.
budget would be $1000 for just the subs. I want it loud and low, so ill probly tune it to 28 hz, but ill have a removable port so I can have different ports. goals, hairtrick, 148+ spl on the TL. I also wana stick to my DD M3a amp, will will probly put out around 2800 watts at 1ohm with the electrical upgrades ill be putting in.
Re: Subwoofer questions.
look at the last post I had for some woofers to do some research on and see what you like/want.

Re: Subwoofer questions.
I really like the HDC2.5, 4 of those on 2800 clean watts will be good I think.
Re: Subwoofer questions.
well they dont make those in 18s just 15s.. they make the hdc3 in 18s tho.. if you were to do 4 15s then yeah 4 sdc2.5s would sound pretty nice imo

Re: Subwoofer questions.
Yeah it would be 5 15s with those, And they are like $50 than other subs in that power range and quality. Ive never really thought about AQ but im likeing them more and more by the minute!
Re: Subwoofer questions.
how would you do 5? if you were do something on the lines of a clamshell 6 would be your best bet, as loow as you have that kind of room width wise..

Re: Subwoofer questions.
woops I ment to git 4, unless I did some wacky thing with an extra sub in the trunk and had a long areo port coming into the cabin lol
Re: Subwoofer questions.
Q is their SQ driver. Much better options out there to get loud.accordwithbass wrote:Ya, see I want to go for more of the SPL side, rather than sound quality. I don't think the Qs would be the best for that.
There is nothing "lower end" about the SSD, or the Dcon for that. RMS has nothing to do with the sound quality or a driver's ability to get loud.accordwithbass wrote:I looked at those, they look pretty good. Re: Subwoofer questions.
I wouldnt want to over power the DCON since its rated low. SSDs Would work good for my application I think. The AQ sdc2.5 looks like a good speaker, but I heard it was made in china. Is that driver worth the money for a SPL setup?
Re: Subwoofer questions.
Fi > AQ. No question in my eyes, nothing close to a question at all
